Horacio Quiroga was born in Salto, Uruguay, on December 31, 1878, and died in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on February 19, 1937, at the age of 58. He was a poet, short story writer and playwright. His life was marked by economic hardship and tragedy: several close relatives and friends committed suicide. He accidentally killed a friend himself, and poisoned himself with cyanide when he learned that he was suffering from cancer.
He began his literary work at a very young age, under the guidance of the famous Argentine writer Leopoldo Lugones. In 1903 he accompanied him to the Misiones area, being dazzled by its nature. There he collects settings and characters for his powerful jungle tales.
He is the author of the Decálogo del perfecto cuentista, as well as numerous short stories, among which Anaconda figures prominently, in which men, snakes and snakes are entangled in a battle for survival.
