Picacaballo / The Tarantula or Horse Spider – Paradise Products Costa Rica

Picacaballo / The Tarantula or Horse Spider

$10

Nature seems to have fun with the occasional moment of “madness”.

This is the case of the horse spider. It has eight eyes (one for each leg), hair on all sides and throws deadly darts at its enemies, which it lodges in its stomach.

That’s not all, but to find out more you have to delve into the guts of this curious issue of the Zoorprendentes collection.

As usual, Anne Señol took a liking to the horsebit and Adián González, who is not even afraid of a spider, set to work to recreate this specimen that does its thing in the Costa Rican countryside.

There are times when Mother Nature’s dizzying array of species appears to be for her benefit: just to amuse her. It certainly seems so in the case of the horse spider or tarantula. This eight-eyed, eight-legged furry arachnid has special bristly projectiles covering its abdomen which it fatally shoots towards its enemies.

And that’s not all! In order to learn more, we invite you to delve into this edition of the Zoorprendentes series where you will discover additional strange and unusual facts about this impressive creature. Once again, Anne Señol’s questing mind coupled with Adián González’ rich illustrations recreate the story of this remarkable specimen that is native to Costa Rica’s countryside.
