Hector painted this book from memory. He had known this for many years, since childhood asthma made him migrate to Nicoya, where his lungs did not improve but his eyes did. Since he was a child, Hector’s eyes drank in the fifty shades of the dry jaragual, the precise colors of the dense skirt of the Malinche, the gray passage of the anvil of the clouds over the brown pastures.
